The FJ Friday Feature Blog gives a chance for our candidates and clients to get to know our team better. This week's FJ Friday Feature speaks with our VP Midwest & West Coast Gareth Fox. Gareth is based in our Chicago office and is actively hiring, if interested, get in touch with Gareth.
1. What initially got you into recruitment?
Did I fall into it or didn’t I? Believe it or not, I was intending to go into recruitment a lot sooner than I did however I took a de-tour through an automotive broker tech start-up. In the end, it was comparing payslips with someone I knew from the industry, and me getting my ass kicked that made me make the jump.
2. What are your favourite things about working at FJ/Talentskowt?
Genuinely collaborative model across the board which is a win-win for candidates, clients, staff & the business. Also, nobody gets hired on a pedestal, everyone gets a fair crack to carve their own career. I’ve never witnessed someone come in, be lazy and do well. Plenty of new starters to the business have adopted this attitude and flying through the ranks of recent. You know who you are.
3. What goals do you have for the next 5 years?
With having three years and some change on my Visa, let’s use that. The dream would be to have developed 2/3 billing managers running self-sufficient high performing & profitable teams in the US.
4. What you recommend to someone who is just starting up in recruitment?
Go in with an open mind leave any previous track record or ego at the door. The first year in recruitment is genuinely tough, being a good listener along with a willingness to learn will take away some of the pain in your first 12 months.
5. Describe your perfect, non-work day.
Depends who I am with but I do miss United away and a sore head the following day. Especially with the recent run of results! Imagine if the fans were at some of those games! …….. Euphoric.
