FJ's Friday Feature | Hannah Sheldon

The FJ Friday Feature Blog gives a chance for our candidates and clients to get to know our team better. This week's FJ Friday Feature speaks with our Talent Consultant Hannah Sheldon, one of our 2020 hires, who is based in our Didsbury office. Hannah joined the #fjfjfamily a few weeks before the first lockdown, read more to find out a bit more about Hannah.

1. What initially got you into recruitment?

After graduating university, I was really unsure what I wanted to do with my career. I went into a sales job soon after and realised my love for people and it was actually my dad that suggested I looked into recruitment.

2. What are your favourite things about working at FJ?

I LOVE the culture at FJ. In a male-dominated industry, I wanted to work for a forward-thinking company and FJ has done an amazing job of supporting females within the industry. I love the fact that I get to speak to people all around the world on a daily basis and the feeling of knowing you’re helping transform the lives of others is amazing.

My favourite thing about working at Finlay James is without a doubt the people. I couldn’t have picked a worse time to join the recruitment industry, (during the beginning of a global pandemic) but John and Sara have been outstanding in supporting their staff throughout and I couldn’t be more grateful. I absolutely love everyone at FJ and couldn’t wish for a better team!

3. What goals do you have for the next 5 years?

Over the next 5 years, I’d love to be able to save up to buy by myself a house in Cheshire with two dogs and have travelled to other places in the world like Asia & Australia. At Finlay James, I hope to have progressed within the company and becoming a successful biller!

4. What you recommend to someone who is just starting up in recruitment?

Don’t give up!

Recruitment is not an easy job. You are going to have days or even weeks where you feel like everything is going wrong BUT keep going as it’s worth it in the end and that feeling of placing your first candidate is amazing. It’s a job where you get to learn so much about yourself and grow on a daily basis which I think makes it so unique and so worthwhile.

5. Describe your perfect, non-work day.

For me, I love going for brunch with my friends or going for a walk in the Peak District in the day followed by going out for drinks in the evening or staying in with a takeaway and a bottle of prosecco.
