This week's FJ Friday Feature speaks with our Head of People at Finlay James and Talentskowt Linda Latimer. Linda lives and breathes the FJ way and is a real asset to both companies. Linda is based in our Didsbury office.

1. What initially got you into HR?

I have been in the HR profession for over 25 years and have a genuine love for people management. In 2009 I went back to college part-time to study for my CIPD qualification in Human Resource Management and the rest is history!! One of my favourite things about HR is that it’s constantly growing and evolving. No two days are the same and life is certainly never boring!

2. What are your favourite things about working at Finlay James?

There are so many things I enjoy about working for Finlay James, but the main thing is definitely the people I work with! The company has a vibrant and diverse workforce with people of different ages, races, genders, and cultural backgrounds and I love how this brings fresh ideas to the table.

​

3. What goals do you have for the next 5 years?

I am currently working on a number of projects including providing support for our management training programme, enhancing our marketing function, and taking our new joiners through their induction, as well as supporting the company’s 5 year business plan.

Out of work, I am looking forward to the arrival of our new cocker spaniel puppy Hugo, so I’m sure that will keep me busy for the next 5 years!!

4. What do you recommend to someone who is just starting up in HR?

Have a vision - know what you want to achieve and why. Never stop learning and network like crazy to become your own expert. HR can be tough, but it is also hugely rewarding. Have a genuine passion for what you do and most importantly have fun along the way!

5. Describe your perfect, non-work day?

A walk along the beach with my husband, Stuart, and our black lab, Woody, followed by a barbecue, drinks, and dancing the night away with friends and family; something I’ve definitely missed over the last 12 months!!
